How low can you get?

As part of its continued drive to reduce the company’s impact on the environment Crossprint announced this week the introduction of a ‘low-chemistry’ platemaking system.
Traditionally, processing printing plates uses a lot of chemistry, wash water and energy which has considerable environmental impact when scaled up to commercial levels.
In recent years most of the major manufacturers have introduced their own more environmentally friendly platemaking options – each with its own particular slant on reducing chemical and energy waste. Attempting to assess which method will benefit both the environment and the business can be a daunting challenge as there are many factors to be considered.
After many months of research Crossprint opted for the Fujifilm Brillia HD Pro-V plate.
The Pro-V plate uses around 86% less chemistry and the need for wash water is removed. There is also no reduction in quality as far as the resolution of the plate is concerned, indeed, early research suggests the quality is an improvement on its predecessors
